Once you can see the Library Extension icon
in your toolbar, click on it! This opens a small popup with your library settings.
Step 2: Open Options
That popup is handy for quick things, but adding and managing libraries now happens on its own dedicated page. Near the bottom of the popup, look for “Want to add, remove, or reorder libraries?” and click Open Options right below it.
Step 3: Add Your Library
On the options page, click the + Add Library button near the top. (If you don’t have any libraries set up yet, you’ll see the same + Add Library button in the middle of the page instead, it does the same thing.)
A dialog titled Add a Library opens with three tabs:
- Search (selected by default): a text box is waiting for you, already focused, with the placeholder “Search by library name⦔, plus a Search button. Great when you already know your library’s name, just start typing.
- Browse: choose a country from the dropdown, and a state or region dropdown appears so you can see what’s available near you.
- Special Catalogs: subscription and accessibility services that aren’t tied to any local library, things like Hoopla, Everand, Bookmate, Libro.fm, Anyplay.fm, Kobo Plus, Blackstone Unlimited, Open Library, and The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled. A few of these, including Hoopla and Open Library, show their logo in the list rather than their name.
Use Search when you know your library’s name, Browse when you’re not sure what it’s called or want to see what’s nearby, and Special Catalogs for services you can add no matter where you live.
Once you spot your library in the results (a “Filter libraries⦔ box appears if the list gets long), select it and click Add. Changed your mind? Cancel closes the dialog without adding anything.
Your library will now appear in your list on the options page! β
Step 4: Choose Your Catalogs
Your library’s catalogs now show up in your list on the options page, each with its own checkbox. Check the ones you’d like results for, physical items, ebooks, audiobooks, whatever that catalog offers.
Some catalogs need your library card to work. Those show a Login button right on their row: click it, enter your card number and PIN (or whatever that catalog asks for), and you’re connected. Nothing here is required before you start browsing, you can always come back and log in later.
