If you see a notice in your results box that reads “Your library catalog has been updated” (or, for National Library Service users, “The National Library Service catalog has been updated”), here’s what it means.

There is nothing you need to do

This is an informational notice, not a warning. Your settings, your libraries, and how you use the Extension are all unaffected. You can dismiss the notice and keep browsing as usual.

Why you’re seeing it

From time to time, we change how the Library Extension talks to a particular library’s catalog. This usually happens because:

• The library has switched to a different catalog system, or
• We’ve improved how we read that catalog’s search results or availability information, so results are more accurate or complete.

When a change like this affects a catalog you use, the Extension shows this notice the next time you get results from that library, so you know why things might look or behave slightly differently.

When it appears

The notice is shown once per catalog, not once per search. After you’ve seen and dismissed it for a given library, it won’t appear again for that library unless we make another change in the future.
